Challenge
Create an interactive exhibition based on a significant person in history. Layout design based on Natalie and James Thompson Gallery at San José State University.
Outcome
An interactive exhibition inspired by the timeless icon Marilyn Monroe, and her role in empowering women. The interactive exhibition is separated into 7 sections: Sculptures, Film Screenings, Embrace Your Voice, Embrace Your Body, Embrace Your Beauty, Embrace Your Twinkle, and Keeping the Legacy. “Embrace Your Twinkle” encourages anyone who enters to think about their unique qualities and how to embrace them just as Marilyn did.
why marilyn monroe?
Marilyn Monroe is one of the most famous actresses of the century. Her platinum blonde curls and red lipstick were her defining characteristics, as was her ability to speak on topics she was passionate about such as feminism, political activism, and body positivity. To me, Marilyn represents someone who was unapologetically herself while breaking stereotypes of women in the 1950s.
Large, oversize photos will be used as the primary design element. Smaller photos with an overlay effect will be used as the secondary design elements. Stars are also used as a motif throughout the exhibition which comes from the title of the exhibit. Oversized quotes are used next to the photographs to describe the theme of a particular area.
